Buffalo Pizza Fries

Jump to Recipe

Since I’ve been on whole30 I feel like I’m constantly just toasting up different kinds of potatoes in my air fryer. On second thought, that’s not all that different from my food freedom life! Seriously though, I LOVE potatoes. Really in all forms. And I include sweet potatoes cook all sorts of ways in that statement. They are just so versatile and can be transformed with so many flavors. I know cauliflower is having it’s day in the sun replacing white potatoes. Trust me, I love me some cauliflower, but at the end of the day, nothing beats salty, crispy, strips of white potato. When you factor in the air fryer, these are a truly delectable treat that I enjoy with absolutely no guilt. Sometimes on the daily.

A couple other things I love? Hot wings, pizza, and ranch. I mean, who doesn’t love these things? Ok, my boyfriend refuses to eat ranch, but he’s wrong. So these fries were born out of cravings for all these things while on whole30. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Ingredients:

Pizza Seasoning: You can get pizza seasoning at most grocery stores or google a recipe to make your own. I personally am using Flavor God Pizza, which has no additives and is Whole30 compliant. If you buy from their actual website you can get it cheaper if bundled with other seasonings. I actually ended up with this one because it was included in a bundle with other seasonings I decided to try. Another favorite I’ve seen people use is Balanced Bites Super Garlic Pizza. However, any pizza seasoning blend you find will work.

Hot Sauce: I’m using New Primal Medium Buffalo here. But again, use whatever favorite wing sauce you prefer.

Ranch: Overall, I have to say I’ve been unimpressed with Paleo/Whole30 ranch alternatives. I have one or two more to try, and I’ll be writing up all my thoughts on that soon, so be on the lookout! I’m a bit of a snob, and personally like to get homemade ranch from the hot chicken shop down the street from my house. Which is full of delicious dairy and I could eat it by the spoonful. I’ve had mixed results making my own. The first time I made it years ago I nailed it, but have been unable to recreate it since. That said, the new Whole30 brand ranch is hands down the best dairy free version I’ve tried to date. It’s exclusively sold at Thrive Market, so if you’re a member, I strongly encourage you to try it! If you’re not on whole30 or dairy free, pick whatever ranch you prefer!

Basil: The recipe calls for fresh basil as a garnish. This really adds a depth of flavors that I encourage you not to skip! Since fresh basil is not always easy to have on hand, I’ve started buying this lightly dried basil from the grocery store. It lasts much longer than fresh leaves and perks up to give that fresh taste.

Cooking Instructions

Wash 3 medium sized potatoes. Slice your potatoes into thin matchsticks that are around 1/4 inch in thickness. Pat the strips down well to remove any moisture. Excess moisture leads to soggy fries, which no one likes!

In a medium sized bowl, toss potatoes, seasonings, and oil together until evenly coated. I have found that even though my pizza seasoning contains salt, is not enough for the fries. About and exta 1/2 tsp is the right amount for me. You may have to add more or less depending on the salt content of your pizza seasoning.

For Air Fryer: Set air fryer to 350F and 20 minutes. Preheat for ~2 minutes. Add potatoes and cook until crispy. Shake well half way though.

Note: I have a Ninja 4 Qt air fryer. I have found that it is quite hot, and I need shorter cooking times when making other people’s recipes. So if you feel like your fries do not have that coveted golden crispy exterior after 18 minutes of cooking, add another 5 minutes and keep it going until you’re happy with the crisp on your fries.

For Oven: Preheat oven to 425F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place fries in single layer. Roast in the oven, on the bottom wrack, for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.

Place on a large serving plate and garnish with ranch, buffalo sauce, and fresh basil. Enjoy!
